A Conversation with Bonny Mathew

Bonny is the newest Artist/Instructor heading up our 2022 season, and I think sharing a bit about him and a recent conversation we had will be of interest to all my artist friends and followers. (Keep scrolling to see some samples of his work)

Me: What’s your art background?

Bonny: I’m an artist by passion, and I’ve been painting for more than 10 years, and winning prizes consistently for the past 4 years.

In fact, right after this conversation, Bonny took another first place prize…here’s the photo. Check out that sky! Congrats, Bonny! I cannot wait to see what you paint once you see the light here in Tuscany!

Me: What do you want your art to say?

Bonny: As a contemporary realist, I would like to make the viewer feel the same excitement as I feel about the subject of my painting and the mood of that captured moment.

Again, when I look at his most recent prize-winner, I have to say, I DO feel my heart get big when I see just how he has captured that singular moment of light…while it hits the distant road in a brilliant flash and right before it shifts…And I can tell you that here, there is a moment when the light is actually green on the horizon, as he has depicted here.

I am really excited to host Bonny this coming March, the 21st, to be exact. Things here will be greening up into the most luscious spring colors and opportunities for plein air painting abound in my neck of the woods. We have panoramas here to capture your imagination and set your heart to thumping.

He came with some really positive and enthusiastic student references regarding his teaching style so it will be fun to watch first hand, as he leads his first group here in Tuscany. If you’ve been itching to travel, this is a great opportunity to see Tuscany with your artist’s eyes, under the guidance of an accomplished instructor…(but keep reading, there’s more)

Me: Who are your biggest art influences?

Bonny: In painting, and art in general, my influences are Vincent Van Gogh, Monet, John Singer Sargent, Edward Seago and Picasso. For modern day artists, Joseph Zbukvic, David Taylor, and Robert Wade.

Me: What piece of advice would you offer to another artist who wants to move to the next level?

Bonny: [Work to] understand and learn from the masters, and practice constantly.

Solid advice from someone who has done exactly that.

As I previously mentioned, I am very much looking forward to Bonny bringing his painting and teaching skills to Tuscany for 10 days. If you are inclined to join us there is currently a $1000 discount on his all-inclusive workshop. But only until the 15th of November. Click here to join us and take advantage of the deal.
